NIGERIAN STATE MUST STOP THESE CRIMES     AGAINST HUMANITY

Wole Soyinka posited in his book, “the Man Died” that “the boundary of the geography of dictatorship, injustice and tyranny gradually extends to include even those who feel protected by silence”. This was also the position of Martin Luther King Jr. who said that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”.  It is in the light of this that the media, civil society, statesmen, political and human rights activities must join forces at all times to condemn, confront, combat and conquer injustice and its perpetrators anywhere they rear their ugly heads.

It has been agreed by leaders and intellectuals all over the world that it is only the strict enforcement of the Rule of Law that can guarantee peace, stability, security and consequently development. The rule of law is based on certain fundamental principles. It is also rooted in the principles of Natural Law. It guarantees the right to fair hearing which presupposes that an accused person in presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court beyond any reasonable doubt. Not only must the accused be heard fairly but the trial must be seen to have been fair. It is only after this, that judgment can be given for or against. This can be followed by discharge and acquittal or sentence and subsequently, punishment.

Regrettably, the situation in the Niger Delta is a vexatious one in which the government of the Nigerian State single-handedly suspects, accuses, judges, invades and massacre the lots of our harmless, defenceless and totally dispossessed people. The invasion of Umuechem, odi, Odioma, Okorenkoko, to mention but a few, are past examples of crimes against humanity perpetrated against our peace loving people. Everyday people are killed unannounced by the occupational forces of the Nigerian State as if we are not part of the Homo Sapien. The latest example is the wicked, criminal and violent attack on Okochiri Community in Okirika Clan leaving sixty persons dead, thousands seriously wounded and some houses burnt down wastefully, in the name of seeking to attack Ateke Tom. If Tom Ateke is suspected to be behind criminal activities, the normal thing is that he should be arrested and given a fair trial. We cannot be in support of criminal activities.

We, the Niger Delta Peoples Salvation Front (NDPSF) condemn, in strong terms, the satanic invasion of Okochiri Community in Okirika Clan and its harmless and armless people. We consider this another act of genocide against the progressive, friendly and accommodating people of Ijaw Nation and above all, a crime against humanity. We insist that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes be brought to book and made to face the tune of the music. We shall not take this shit from them anymore.

Finally, our organization calls on apostles of justice all over the world to join us in demanding for the trial of the agents of the Nigerian state that are responsible for  this barbaric and savagely acts. We remain as focused as ever as we continue to fight for self determination. Do not forget that “the man dies in him who keeps silent in face of tyranny and injustice”.

 The struggle is unstoppable!
